Wow! What an incredible night! Thanks so much to everyone who participated in this event. With the generous donation of money, gifts, time and energy from all of you all we sp far  EXCEEDED our goal by $760.00!!  We began fundraising May 11 and  in a total of 6 days we raised $1,760.00 for the American Cancer Society. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I am so very grateful to each of you and I know the Schmitz Family really appreciated everyone's involvement as well.  (You can click on the pics to see them larger)

Dearest Friends and Family,

I have read the statistics many times.
I have provided therapy for its victims many times.
I have even had a few ”brush bys” with it from time to time in my own life.

 

None of those moments ever really “got it” in my head. “Got what?” you may be asking? I never got how frightening, how powerful, how sneaky, and most of all how prevalent CANCER is. (Did you know 1 in 3 people will have cancer in their lifetime?)  Sadly, this year many of us have seen the menacing ways of cancer as we have witnessed the Schmitz family in the midst of Nathan's diagnosis in November, subsequent treatments, and the side effects that go along with all of that.  The courage and grace that Nathan, his parents, and his 3 younger siblings have shown us all during this crisis has truly amazed me. Their faithful response has been a personal encouragement to me and has drawn me even closer to God, as I'm sure it has many of you. 

 

For those of you who don't know me, My name is Susana and I'm Nathan's Spanish teacher.  Throughout this crisis I have been so blessed by Nathan's continued attendance to class.  A few days ago, Nathan shared with me that he will be participating in the survivor lap in the Relay for Life event coming up this Friday. Once he left my house I visited the website and was immediately  inspired to join in with the fundraising efforts for the American Cancer Society.  Most Relay for Life teams have been up and running since January, so this is a very last minute undertaking. The actual Relay for Life will be this Friday night lasting from 7pm to 7am. The team is supposed to have someone walking on the track all night long (in shifts)  - remembering that "Cancer never sleeps" and run a tent that continues to raise funds throughout the night. I hope you will join in with me to raise as much money and awareness as possible so that continued cancer research will one day soon lead to a cure.

  When you join a team you will pay a $10.00 fee, send out emails to help raise funds, and join me Friday night at my tent which will be set up like a Spanish Cantina. See the website for more details.
